In 1961 three friends, Desmond Knox-Leet, Christiane Gautrot and Yves Coueslant, opened a shop in Paris to sell their own furnishing fabrics and scented products for the home. Inspired by nature, Diptyque's creations stemmed from memories of the founders' travels throughout the Mediterranean and the Near East. Scents conjure up images of hot summer days in Greece, an orchard of limes and tangerines or the scent of a green riverside garden. Today, the Diptyque range stretches across fifty-three scented candles and fourteen eaux de toilette. From the warm summery Figuier, to the stunningly lush Tubeusese, Diptyque's craftsmen blend the wax with very rare natural essences from Grasse to ensure that each candle releases the perfect amount of scent for as many as 60 hours of burning.
