Essential Steps to Well-beauty

by Kate Shapland

Has there ever been a more exciting time to be in the beauty business?  We live in a time when creativity and speed go hand in hand, which makes for an thrilling ride.

When I had the seed of the idea for sip: the original skin drink, six or seven years ago, new holistic beauty was an emerging trend. And it was different to the integrated beauty of old – much more glamorous and appealing. If you look around now you will see how this trend has developed – holistic silk slippers that massage the soles of your feet, flower remedies, vitamin skin tablets and stress-busting body creams and candles – are all part of that new well-beauty approach that looks after the whole body, inside and out, and keeps you looking and feeling fab.

These are some of the philosophies that I believe contribute most to looking and feeling well – the way we should all be all the time:

• nurture yourself – by which I mean mind, body and spirit – and not just with the occasional beauty treatment: regular professional facials or massages should provide total physical and mental benefits.  Make it a resolution to have one every six to eight weeks, and to treat yourself to new cosmetics and pampering bath oils regularly.

• nature’s way is best – most of us want transparency in our lives now – in the food we eat, the beauty products we use – fewer chemicals, more natural goodness.  sip is the only flavoured water which is 100% natural – a manufacturing advance that took two years to perfect with a special pasteurisation process – with skin-friendly botanicals like rose petal in it sourced from an organic farm in Herefordshire.

• good taste is everything – there is no getting round it, when something tastes (or looks) great you want it: this matters in every other area of your life, so why make room for anything in your wardrobe, bathroom cabinet – or Fridge – that don’t measure up?

• look within – but don’t overreflect: you can normally find the answers to problems if you are honest with yourself and take an integrated approach to sorting them out.  For instance, if you have an ongoing problem with pimples or cellulite, consider your diet and exercise – the easiest solutions aren’t always the best but sometimes the solution need not be that hard either.

• keep fit – walk the dog, walk an extra bus stop, have lots of sex – anything that makes your heart thumb, blood and endorphins flow.

• be happy – it’s not about money or material things: it’s about actively loving the moment you are in.

sip: the original skin drink is available from Waitrose and all central London Eat cafés.  For other stockist info call 0870 800 5271.
