After the 1929 Wall Street crash, Jean Patou decided to offer a gift to his affluent American clientele who could no longer visit his premises in Paris. He asked the House Perfumer, Henri Almeras, to create an extroaordinary, sumptuous fragrance using the most precious ingredients: Bulgarain rose, rose de mai and jasmine from Gasse.
